The Ukrainian boxer won by 3:2 points against the Philippines’ Eumir Marcial and will now face Brazil’s Hebert Sousa in the gold medal match on 7 August
Ukraine’s Oleksandr Khyzhniak won the men’s middle semi-final bout against Filipino boxer Eumir Marcial and will go on straight to the finals on 7 August.
It was a boxing masterclass from the outset as Khyzhniak and Marcial exchanged blows and displayed powerful combos in a tight and thrilling duel that saw both boxers show their prowess from start to finish.
But the Ukrainian highlighted his imperious form in the third round landing enough scores to end Marcial’s Olympic bid.
Marcial lost by split decision with Khyzhniak winning by 3:2 points.
Khyzhniak, who had been undefeated for the last five years now has a chance at gold in the coming finals with Brazil’s Hebert Sousa.
